WWE is known for signing celebrities to appear at their shows, be it major events like Wrestlemania or weekly events like RAW or SmackDown. A similar situation happened back in the day with popular infomercial legend Billy Mays.
For the uninitiated, Billy Mays was a common household name back in the day in America, and was popular for his infomercials, especially household cleaning products and gadgets. He was so popular that a parody version of his character was also included in South Park. Recently, when one fan commented that they would have loved to see the icon appear as a guest host, which drew a response from Billy Mays’ son.
WWE almost signed a deal with OxiClean during the Attitude Era
According to his son, OxiClean almost signed a deal with the WWF during the attitude era. While responding to the original comment, he said, “You have no idea how close something like this was to happening! Sometime during the attitude era, OxiClean was thinking about sponsoring the WWF and the idea I heard thrown around was that my dad would appear on Raw or a PPV to “clean blood off the ring mat.”
While that didn’t happen, the fact that it was close to happening might both excite and disappoint Mays’ fans at the same time. For context, one of Mays’ best infomercials was the one about OxiClean, a stain remover that could remove the “toughest of stains” and was apparently tested in a WWE ring too. Now there are certain matches in the WWE where things might get a bit too bloody and brutal, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see the infomercial legend to step into the ring and clean it up with OxiClean. It would be an interesting way to promote the product too.
The promotion has moved ahead with its advertising and endorsements strategies over the past couple of years. Logan Paul and PRIME are one such example of such a collaboration. Had it been now, there’s a high chance that the management would have gone ahead with the deal and the infomercial star would have made an appearance in the squared circle.
